We spent an interesting morning with Peter Kerr today. Peter came to talk to us about his experiences as a successful author. He told us lots of fascinating stories about his life - we didn’t know whether to laugh or cry about Mario Lanzarote, the canary, and Chirpie, the budgie! Peter also gave us lots of interesting tips about writing. Thank you, Peter.

P4/5 have been learning how to cooperate in our TEAM lessons. TEAM stands for ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’. We decided to showcase our cooperative skills by presenting different activities to the P7 and the P3/4 class. We hope that both classes enjoyed the activities that we led and that they learned something about how to be a cooperative team player in group work.

P7 Orienteering December 15, 2009

On Tuesday 8th of December Primary 7 went orienteering in Yellowcraigs. Orienteering is when you use your map skills to find various things.

After the bus trip we met a man called Martin. He explained a few things about orienteering that would be helpful to us.

We then got into groups, “A” “B” and “C”. Group “A” went with Martin, group “B” went with Al and Miss Veitch and group “C” went with Andy and Mrs Peaston.

We went out into the woods with our leaders to do some practice with the maps. Then we got into partners and with our maps we tried to find flags that had been stuck into the ground.

Lastly, we worked together in a competition. In partners we were sent out to find flags using our maps. The pair that got back the fastest would win. In the orange competition, Ben, Calum and Cairn came first with a time of 4 mins 57secs. In the green competition, the winners  were Lauchlan and Ewan J, who finished with a time of 5 mins 11 secs. Well done!

On Monday evening the P1 and P2/3 classes presented their nativity play to parents in Aberlady Church. The play was a new ‘take’ on the nativity story with some aliens arriving in Aberlady and witnessing rehearsals for the school nativity play. The children gave a wonderful performance and everyone in the audience enjoyed it.

Well Done P1 and P2/3!

A collection was held at the recent Infant Nativity performances of ‘Christmas with the Aliens’. We are very pleased to announce that we raised £200 for The Erskine Hospital for Ex-Service men and women. It is based in Bishopton near Glasgow, but has a new home in Gilmerton, Edinburgh.

We felt it was appropriate at this time of year to raise money for servicemen and women and their families. Thank you to everyone.
