P3/4 working together to create something fantastic
To draw together our discoveries about Egypt so far we decided to begin to re create the Great Pyramid in our classroom today. Everyone worked hard to create the large blocks and from there we created pictures of the builders led by Struan and Jonathan, mini blocks on string ropes for the builders led by Daisy and Ruairidh, boats for the Nile were researched and drawn by Finlay, Toni, Max, Emma and Lucy whilst Robbie and Callum worked together recording everyone’s findings to compile a page in our book of learning and Seb worked on illustrations for the front cover. Sam and Miss Hutchison assembled the blocks together and then Sam had time to make an access ramp for the builders whilst Oliver and Miss Hutchison used an atlas to create a Nile that stretches along the base of our pyramid and then on around our room to the Mediterranean Sea.
Our next steps are to research the farming that surrounded the Nile and the villages, towns and cities in which people lived. We will add our findings to our very visual display of our learning alongside descriptions and labels.
The best thing about this morning was that we were working independently, thinking creatively, helping each other, selecting appropriate materials and tools, applying our thinking, researching with a purpose in mind, using different information sources and discussing, deciding and negotiating whilst having fun. Nobody decided on jobs or tasks beforehand it just all came together because we worked as a team.
No time to take any photos this morning it was all hands on deck but watch this space.
