Fire safety with David Norris
On 16th January David Norris from the Fire and Rescue Service came to talk to us about fire safety at home.
He asked us to spot hazards in a virtual living room video clip on the whiteboard.
Some of the hazards are open fires, smoking, vases of water on top of a TV, overloaded plugs and iron witch haven’t been switch off and left upright.
Did you know fire does not kill, smoke does.
He told us what to do in event of a fire. The steps are feel the door for heat. Gather everyone in one room with a telephone and call 999. If you can’t breath, open the window so you can get fresh air. Do not panic!
If you see smoke coming from under the door, cover the gap with pillows and clothes and don’t jump out of the window even if you don’t have an upstairs.
Did you know, oxygen makes fire spread rapidly so close doors after making your way to safety.
We were asked to check our smoke detectors when we got home.
We learned a lot.
