Today is supposed to be the gloomiest day of the year. Christmas is over, and lots of people feel depressed at the thought of another long, dark winter and another year at work or school.
However, we think we have lots to be happy about and to be grateful for! Most of us wore something today that makes us smile: Hannah wore her Mum’s beautiful diamante rose brooch, Aila wore her Mickey Mouse badge from her Disneyworld holiday, Jude wore a smiley face badge and Emily wore her lucky turtle brooch. Holly wore her favourite bracelets and Luke wore his lucky hat.
Here are some of the things that we are grateful for and make us smile:
Molly: I am most grateful for having a family. What makes me most happy is when I come home and Angel wants to play with me.
Alexander: I am grateful that I have a lovely family. I smile most when I see my ducks and hens.
Cameron: I am grateful for my house and family. I smile most when I see my dog smiling at me. He really does smile!
Aila: I am grateful that my Mum and Dad both have jobs and are able to look after our family. My friends make me smile.
Esme: I am grateful that I go to a good school. I am happiest when I am playing with my dogs.
Lily: I am grateful for my family because I have so many of them. What makes me smile most is when my little sister, Jasmine, laughs.
Joe: I am grateful that I had a good year last year, when I did lots of happy things. What makes me smile most is seeing my dog and my family at the end of the day.
Alex: I am grateful that I have a family and that we have enough money. I am happiest when I am playing with my friends.
Holly: I am grateful for all the nice friends that I’ve got. My friends and family make me smile and make me feel warm and fuzzy.
Emily: I was very grateful when I finished my maths today – thank you for help to Kirsty, Charlotte and Hannah. I am happiest when my cat, Jack, is around. He sits and purrs beside me.
Sarah: I am grateful for having very nice family and friends. I am happiest when I play with my little sister, Leah, and I know that she is having lots of fun.
Thomas: I am grateful for my friends and family. My rabbits, Fudge and Smudge, make me smile. When I go to their cage they come and see me.
Harry: I am grateful that I have curly hair because it keeps me warm. What makes me smile is when Jude and I make up funny jokes.
Niamh: I am grateful for everything that I am. Snoopy the dog makes me happy – I love the cartoon and I love my toy Snoopy.
Kirsty: I am grateful that I can get into a good football club. I am most happy when my brothers play football with me.
Elise: I am most grateful for having nice friends. I am happiest when I am with my cat, Sasha.
Charlotte: I am grateful for living in a nice community. I am happiest when I am with my Dad.
Hannah: I am grateful that I get to do lots of after-school activities, like horse-riding and gymnastics. What makes me most smile most is my best friend, Lily, who makes me laugh and laugh.
Lucy: I am grateful that I get a good education. My dog and my friends make me smile. I love them all very much!
Olivia: I am grateful that I am very happy at school and I have lots of good friends. I smile most when my dog, Bracken, sneezes. It is so funny. Once she sneezed all over my friend’s trousers.
Jude: I am grateful for all the technology I have, such as my X-Box, my computer, my TV. I am happiest when I am playing with all these things with my friends.
Ruth: I am most grateful that I have a lovely family. I am happiest when I am with my friends or with my puppy, Otto.
Luke: I am grateful for having a happy life. What makes me happy is when I play football.
