The Legend of King Loth

In conjunction with The Charades Theatre Company, P7 at Prestonpans Primary School are staged a performance of “The Legend of King Loth.”

Based on the myth of King Loth, from which the word Lothian derives, the light opera tells the story of a king beaten, rising again with his army and taking back his kingdom from the evil Mordred.

The children worked with a professional company and school based music specialists to learn the songs, rehearse the dancing and stage the performance. The children have grown in confidence during the period of rehearsal. Liam a P7 pupil said “Working with the actors was a great experience and finding out how to improve our singing was incredible.”

The ability to draw on the resource has benefitted the whole year group in terms of music. The children have gained an insight into being effective contributors within their year group and successful individuals. The production has also shown the children how a professional musical is staged, a new experience for most of P7.

Performances took place on Monday 28 March in front of parents and P3 pupils from Prestronpans Infant School.
