Well done to all the class who took part in yesterday’s sponsored silence, which will allow us to raise funds for our upcoming Schoolovision project next term.

Can I request please that all money be sent in to the school as soon as possible, so that we can decide how best to use what we have raised.

Many thanks!
Mr Purves

As part of our project work this term, we have created a link with a school in the southern half of Sweden, in the village of Grimsas. Grimsas school’s classes are well known to us already, as they have taken part in several larger projects I have run- they were the Swedish representatives in A Snapshot of Europe and indeed two of their pupils won in the 2010 version of this competition. They are also the Swedish representatives in Schoolovision and have created some really great songs since joining in 2009.

We have already been busy creating our own profiles, which the children posted themselves to the new class link blog Let’s be friends yesterday and today. Our friends from Sweden say they’ll post their own introductions in the next week or so. We hope to find out a bit more about their country and their area through this link. The url for the blog is http://grimsasyester.blogspot.com One thing to note is the fact that, to maintain anonymity, we have all chosen Swedish names to correspond with!

Andy explains what we need to do.

We had a very enjoyable morning at Haddington’s Neilson Park, where we all completed a wide range of orienteering courses.
Many of us are now excited about the forthcoming East Lothian competition on March 1st, and we hope to have some representatives in the team.

With Martin at the check in desk!

Today, P5/6 were issued with a Scottish poem that we read over carefully and discussed in class. Your child should have brought this home, as it needs to be learned for early next week, when we will have a competition to see who can represent the class at next week’s Burns Supper that P5/6 will be leading. The Burns Supper will be on Thursday 26th January, so we will be rehearsing this week to see who will have the responsibility of either leading the Burns Supper, or delivering some of the speeches.

I am looking for enthusiastic delivery of the poetry homework, and good pronunciation and clarity for the roles that will be available.

A quick reminder to all parents that we will be heading off on Wednesday morning to Haddington’s Nielson Park to take part in some orienteering activities.
Please can you ensure that your child has returned their permission slip to school, and that they come appropriately dressed on Wednesday to school. If it is still as cold as it has been today, they will need to be warmly wrapped up!

Here is our entry for the 2012 version of The European Chain Reaction. It took us quite a bit of time to plan and put it together, and each and everyone in the class took part and collaborated to help make it happen.
We now need to wait and watch all the other entries from across Europe appear- they need to be uploaded to the blog by Friday 13th January. Then, once everyone has watched all the entries and voted for their favourites, the winning country will be announced on Friday 27th January.
